SCOTIABANK has donated $415,000 to support the work of Help and Shelter (H&S) on behalf of women in Guyana.
The presentation took place Thursday 15 March, 2007 in the H&S boardroom, on Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown, where Ms. Margaret Kertzious accepted the cheque for the beneficiary and expressed thanks for the timely gift.
The donation was part of a regional initiative by Scotiabank to celebrate and be supportive of International Women’s Day observed on March 8.
The money is intended to advance the efforts of the non-governmental organisation towards stopping violence against women in this society and contribute to their empowerment.
Meanwhile, a release said the dedication to promote and empower earned Scotiabank the 2007 Catalyst Award, to be presented in New York on March 21.
It would be to recognise Scotiabank for its corporate initiatives that aid the recruitment, development and advancement of women, the release said.
