Julea

Julea came to Georgetown, from interior at a young age, gotten married and started having children. She never had the opportunity to go back to school, learn a skill or seek employment. All was well in in the beginning, until her husband’s behavior changed towards her, when he started seeing someone else. Upon recognizing what was happening, she tried talking to him and the abuse, verbally, physically and financially started. Client said, she began selling food on weekends in order to sustain herself and on many occasions, she was forced not to, she tried to cope with the treatment until it became unbearable and she reached out for help. Client during her follow-up session of counselling, was told about attending Carnegie to do a year programme, she was reluctant, because of not knowing if she had the ability to read, write and comprehend. Client said, she has always been referred to by her husband as being dumb; and the fact that she only went to primary school, believed him. All of that changed, after accepting the scholarship of which she graduated as the top student of her class. Client said, she cannot be prouder of herself and is very grateful that she had gotten the opportunity and support from H&S and all her teachers at the CSH. Client said, she tries to encourage others who she would come in contact with, not to sit and accept abuse, and let them know there is help out there, also that they can do better for themselves. She is presently employed and enjoying her new life.
